Old Black Japanese Kimono Wedding Gown, Forest Scene
Directory: Archives: Regional Art: Pre 1920: Item # 132892
Here is a strikingly beautiful view of an Oshidori couple, flying over a pond and plum trees in a dark background. The finest embroidery and silver couching thread work on thick but soft black Shusu (Japanese silk satin), lined with red silk. You could not find this kind of quality silk in newer silk. The amazing quality workmanship is shown throughout the gown.
The condition of this gown is almost like new. There are some loose threads in the silver couching yarns, thin red silk thread which holds the thick silver cord, are old and broken in a small area. The gown is currently sent out for this repair. All family crests are done with gold (real gold) couching and are all in perfect shape. The size is petite, 63 1/2" long and 48" sleeve to sleeve, a perfect size to decorate a wall. Hung on the wall, it is guaranteed to awe your guests. Circa, Meiji to Taisho period (1868-1926).
